Product information

All about 100% almond paste

Almonds are very healthy! They contain plenty of protein, minerals, vitamins and calcium. The almond also consists of 70% monounsaturated and 30% saturated fatty acids. Almonds are known for the large amount of antioxidants they contain. The almond is rich in the antioxidant vitamin E. Antioxidants may play a role in preventing cardiovascular disease and cancer, and in slowing down the ageing process. The magnesium in almonds helps to build stronger bones and plays a role in various enzyme processes in the body. Like all nuts, almonds are rich in unsaturated fat. A great deal of sugar is used to make almond paste. Almond paste is therefore very high in calories! For specific information about almond paste, please refer to the Nutrition Guide.

The almond tree grows in a subtropical climate. It can therefore be found in regions such as the United States (over 80 per cent of almonds come from California), North Africa and countries such as Greece, Turkey, Spain and Italy.

Almond paste, or marzipan filling, is a mixture of almonds and sugar.

The almond is the seed of the almond tree, which grows in countries with a Mediterranean climate. The almond tree is closely related to the plum and peach tree.

After the fruit has been harvested, the nuts are dried in their shells for 8-10 days. They are then transported to the factory, where they are cracked and washed. They are also sorted by size and blanched. Almonds are blanched because this makes it easier to remove the skin. Most of them are then shelled and sold with or without their skin. Almonds are also sold in other forms, such as flakes, slivers, pieces, ground and as almond paste.
