The crunchy coating around the peanut is made with starch (gluten) and wasabi. Wasabi is a powerful spice from Japanese cuisine.
Peanuts contain large amounts of vitamin B3, vitamin E and zinc. Zinc plays an important role in building proteins and in repairing and renewing tissue. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that can play an important role in preventing cardiovascular disease and cancer. Vitamin B3 supports the proper functioning of the nervous system and helps keep your skin healthy.

Half of all the rice on earth is grown in China and India. Most of that production is for domestic use. The most important rice exporting countries are Thailand, Vietnam, the United States and India. Rice crackers, also known as Japanese savoury snacks, come in many varieties and originate from Japan.

The peanut plant originates from South America. In the 16th century the Spanish spread this plant to (sub)tropical regions all over the world. However, it is suspected that the peanut was already known in Brazil before the Common Era. Nowadays peanuts come from countries including the United States, China, Egypt, Israel and South Africa.

Rice crackers are made from a dough of cooked rice. Rice is a cereal and, like all other grains, belongs to the grass family. Its Latin name is Oryza sativa. Threshing is the process by which the grains are removed from the ears of rice. After threshing, the rice goes through a rice mill to separate the grains from the chaff. The chaff is an inedible husk. The rice is then sieved to remove dirt and small stones. At this stage you have the purest and most nutritious rice.

Also take a look at Peanuts for more information about the peanut.

Wasabi is a mustard-like substance, a very pungent spice from Japanese cuisine. Most of the wasabi available on the market is not made from Wasabia japonica. It is an imitation, made from green-coloured radish, or a mixture of horseradish, radish, mustard, leaf green and E numbers. Real wasabi (the rhizome) is perishable, difficult to cultivate and has a growing period of at least 1.5 years. That is why real wasabi is expensive. Imitation wasabi is often used in Japan as well.
