All about blue raisins

Blue Chilean raisins are unsulphured, very nutritious and contain plenty of vitamins. The healthy properties of raisins include: grape sugar (i.e. instant energy), organic acids, lots of B vitamins and polyphenols that are good for the heart and blood vessels.
The skin of the grapes contains antioxidants (the blue ones more than the green), which protect the body and promote blood circulation.
Grapes also stimulate the digestive juices and the absorption of nutrients, and keep our internal environment in balance. They are also excellent for kidney function, while the fibres in the skin and the pips promote intestinal transit. Your cholesterol level also benefits from the saponins in grapes.
But beware! Raisins contain a great deal of sugar! Per 100 grams this can be up to 84% grape sugars – natural, admittedly. So packed with calories.

Raisins originally come from the south of Spain. Nowadays they are also produced in Australia, Asia, California and Turkey. Our blue raisins come from Chile.

A raisin is a dried grape. Drying is done so the grape can be kept for longer. They grow in bunches on vines.

To determine the quality of the raisin, attention is paid to, among other things, the number of stalks, the moisture content, the degree of contamination, the colour and the number of raisins. The bunches of grapes are then dried in the sun. This process takes seven to ten days. It takes place in the open air on plastic sheeting to keep the risk of contamination low. During this drying process the raisins naturally turn dark.

After drying, the raisins are processed and exported.
