Originally from Asia Minor. Nowadays figs mainly come from Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece, France and Israel. In the spring months, Brazil is an important supplier. Our Smyrna Figs come from Turkey.

The fig is one of the oldest known fruits and grows on the fig tree. The fruit is naturally rather dry and sweet in flavour.

The wild fig produces flowers and fruit three times a year. On the outside, the flower looks much like an unripe green fruit. It is formed by the flower base, which has grown into a pear-shaped hard skin. The fruits are green-yellow or blue-violet in colour. The flesh is green or red, tastes pleasantly sweet and contains a great many tiny seeds. Both the seeds and the flesh are edible.
