Product information

All about pitted dates

A date contains various vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin A, several B vitamins, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, copper and potassium. In addition, a date contains plenty of dietary fibre, tannins that are said to have an anti-inflammatory effect and antioxidants that help cleanse the body. The downside is that dates also contain a lot of natural fruit sugars and therefore have relatively many calories!
These dates also contain glucose syrup as a preservative. For more information, please refer to the Nutrition Guide.

Please note! Glucose syrup is made from starch. Many types of starch, such as wheat starch, are in theory gluten-free (it is wheat flour from which the gluten has been 'washed out'), but in practice it always still contains some gluten. If starch is used in a product, it may still be called gluten-free as long as it contains less than 200 ppm of gluten.
A small group of people, however, is so sensitive that they experience symptoms even after ingesting such a small amount of gluten. Those people really need to eat 100% gluten-free and should therefore also avoid gluten-free products containing wheat starch.

The shelf life of this product is six months. For short-term storage, it is best to keep them in a cool, dry place. For long-term storage, dates are best kept refrigerated at two to four degrees Celsius.

Until a few years ago, only candied dates were available outside the countries of origin, but now fresh dates are exported as well. Only a few of the many varieties are for sale.

It is thought that the date originally grew in an area between the Nile and the Euphrates, but this has never been confirmed. Nowadays, dates are mostly found in regions with a similar climate, such as Australia, Morocco, Israel, Algeria and the United States.
