The cranberry is a bog berry that grows on a plant from the heather family. The cranberry hangs from the curved stem of the flower on which it grows. This resembles the neck of a crane, which is where the name comes from. The flower has a stem of about 5 mm and its colour varies from pink to red. The leaves are egg-shaped and 4 to 10 mm long.

The fruit is harvested in a special way. After the bushes have been flooded, most of the cranberries can be removed from the vines. The berries float to the surface, where they are collected. After harvesting, the fruits are washed and dried, which makes them keep for longer.
